What do you do?
“I promote events and DJ in clubs. We do a club night every Thursday, the main Razor Stiletto night once a month and then a few sporadic other gigs. I’ve been doing it on and off for about five years. I originally approached Inspiral about two and half years ago, but they didn’t have any programmes running that I was eligible for. Then, about a year ago, they contacted me and told me about I-Start.”
What help has Inspiral given you?
“Inspiral helped me redevelop my website but the business support has been the main thing. They’re objective. I’m caught up in what I do and they are able to take a step back and look at things. They don’t hassle you to go into meetings all the time but if you need them, they are there. It’s a quite laid back arrangement and I like it that way.”
How has Inspiral’s help impacted on your business?
“Inspiral has given me a lot more focus. Since I’ve been with Inspiral, I’ve set up Razor Stiletto as a limited company. When you do that, it opens up a lot more doors. It makes things more official and people take you more seriously. It gives you more structure. The day to day running of the business is much easier now.
Once I get the new website up-and-running, which Inspiral has helped with, that will really help. Everyone in Sheffield knows who I am and what I do but I’m less well known outside the city. A better online presence will give us a good point of contact for anyone wherever they live to find out about us.”
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?
“It’s worth contacting Inspiral because even if they haven’t got a package available that is suitable for you, they’ll point you in the right direction and help you out.”
